Issue #5

Some Housekeeping

I just setup a Twitter account for Sonic Poscards so please consider giving me a follow or sharing it with your friends!

I wanted to thank Skylar for his idea of using the Postcard as the Spotify cover art for the playlist. Feel free to give me a shout if you have any feedback!

Issue #5

Howdy howdy howdy and welcome to Issue #5 of Sonic Postcards. I am feeling especially grateful for this project this week and the almost mandated pause it brings each week to listen to and write about music.

There is no question that the standout track for me this week is The Hardest Part from Overcoats and featuring Tennis. Overcoats is a new group for me while Tennis is an old favorite. I have been looping the track all week and I think part of the reason I love it so much is because something about reminds me so much of Sjowgren's "Seventeen".

Overcoats is comprised of Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell who met at Wesleyan University. The duo are known for having a ridiculously close, almost telepathic bond. As a write up in Seven Days put it, "Their soulful, folk-tronic tunes are wholly collaborative endeavors. There are no 'Hana' songs or 'JJ' songs — only Overcoats songs." It seems fitting then that they are collaborating on this track with Tennis, a wife and husband creative duo who spent a year on a 30 ft sailboat sailing the Eastern Seaboard. Their 2011 album, Cape Dory emerged out of that year at sea and still plays well in my opinion.

That's it for this week. Happy listening on the sonic seas!
