Issue #46
Featuring tracks from Kings of Convenience, Four Tet, Runaways UK, Video Kid, Lali Puna, and Apparat
Welcome to Issue #46 of Sonic Postcards!
I don’t remember exactly what put me back on this track at the start of the week, but I stumbled upon an old podcast I used to listen to religiously called Radio Three Sixty. Prior to Hype Machine and reading music blogs, Radio Three Sixty was how I found the majority of my new music.
The podcast was produced by DJ Darkhorse with the intent of providing “Music for Strange Moments.” From the show description,
“Our aim is to expose you all to deep beautifully strange music that will help you in the every day, as you view the world around playing out like a silent color film, the music soundtrack in your ears…There are those moments in life that you attach to music, that help you remember them many years later, we like to call it "Music For Strange Moments."
The show delivers on that promise, with the cover featuring an astronaut surfing a big wave to boot. If you dig mellower, instrumental, and low key electronic stuff, going through the archive might be well worth your while.
While it’s been years since I last listened, it is still remarkably influential in my taste today. Appropriately, nearly the entirety of this week’s playlist is sourced from my favorite Radio Three Sixty episodes.
In addition to these recs, one track in this same vein that is among my all time favorites that I wanted to include, but is not on Spotify is AraabMuzik’s Streetz Tonight.
That’s it for this week. Happy listening.
Best,
Ben
